Style Icon: Nina Simone

When I see R&B Jazz artist Nina Simone’s style, artists such as Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu come to my mind; however, I don’t think of Zoe Saldana, the actress who portrayed the late¬†songwriter in the recent biopic currently playing in theatres (but that is another story).
I absolutely love Nina’s Afrocentric style that was somewhat fashion-forward, especially the white netted outfit in the first picture.

Style Star: Jody Watley

Remember Jody Watley? 1/3 of the R&B group Shalamar. The singer who was married to Andre Cymone. The same Andre Cymone who grew up with Prince? Yeah, that Jody Watley.
She was one of my fashion icons growing up. (I believe I have petticoats in my closet now because of her influence) I wanted to dress JUST LIKE her. A black corset, black fluffy petticoat, huge hoop earrings, stockings and a pair of patent leather booties.
……and her hair was #everything to me……..wait, it still is. ūüôā

Style Star: Dawn Richard

I have been following Dawn Richard since MTV’s “Making the Band”; however, I did not realize just how talented she was until I saw this dance video here on YouTube. My initial thought was “OMGEEEE, they are seriously “jammin”!!! (So you know I had to replay it atleast 2 more times. :-)) Afterwards, I spent the next few hours viewing all her YouTube videos.

This resulted in¬†following her on Instagram¬†and noticing another one of her talents. Her sense of style. It’s so unique yet sexy, don’t you agree?
