ChalleBrown Style Corner: Where to Shop

Often times people will come up to me and say “Hey, I love your style. Where do you shop for your clothes?”. My response is generally “Everywhere” because the person may not really want know all the places.  A few stores at best.

Well, truth is I do shop “Everywhere” but I am brand loyal to where I purchase my clothes. If I like your product, whether it’s a unique boutique, Goodwill or a designer store, I will patronize it forever.
Here are some of my favorite spots (in no particular order):

Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom_night
Nordstrom Rack has all the designer clothing like Free People, Michael Kors, DKNY and others for 50%-75% off. I found a pair of wide leg Free People jeans for $44.00. (How cool is that?) Plus their jewelry is DYNOMITE!!! (in my JJ from Good Times voice).

Vintage Shops

I have a favorite store in my hometown that I frequent quite often because I find some of the best 70’s maxi dresses.  I visit the shop so much the owner gave me a honorary coupon for 20% off.

Forever 21
Forever21.1
Okay, so who doesn’t shop at Forever 21? (crickets….)

Goodwill

Good store. Good prices. With a little effort, you can find the perfect pair of designer jeans for a mere $4.29.

Etsy

I generally shop Etsy online as a treat to myself.  Some of their items can be a little pricey but the benefit is you receive a “one of a kind” outfit and you’re supporting an independent designer.

The Review: Shopping eBay

Online shopping is reminiscent of the quote by Forrest Gump “Life is like a box of chocolates” because you truly never know what you will receive in the mail.   For the most part, my online shopping experience has been positive with the exception of shopping on eBay.   All I can say is beware of some of their sellers.   If the price is really cheap there may be a high probability that the quality of the clothing will be just as cheap.

For example, I purchased this Vintage Denim Dress:

Super cute right?   Wrong.   Let’s just say when I received it in the mail (after waiting what appeared to be months), it resembled something a really small petite person could wear.  After several blank stares of the product, I placed it on a hanger and currently in deliberation of what to do with it.

The best advice I could give anyone who purchases items online (especially eBay) is to read the reviews.   The customer is always right.   🙂

Feel free to share with me some of your online experiences.   I would love to know.
