CB Style Corner: Summer 2016 Trend Report

My “fashion” 3rd eye has been spotting several trending styles that is not only gracing the runways but also the streets. Personally, I am a huge fan of everything I have seen thus far with the exception of the “Pom Pom” sandals. I want to like those sandals so bad (really deep inside I do) but they just appear faddish to me.

CB Style Corner: Layering Maxis

LayerMaxi (2)
To me there is no wrong way to wear a maxi dress. I mean it’s about the easiest outfit to coordinate in your closet……simply slip one on, add a necklace and Boom, “You’re all cute”; however, during the fall/winter months, I try to layer my maxis to keep warm.
The easiest way I have found to layer a maxi (especially if it’s a summer maxi) is with tights and a turtleneck. You can add a denim or biker jacket with a cute knit scarf for added warmth or try complimenting the outfit with a faux fur for a more glamorous look.
The key is to keep the layers simple. No one wants to walk out the house looking like the “Abominable Snowman”. 🙂

CB Style Corner: Fall Layering 101

Welcome To Fall Everyone!!!!
I will be focusing on “Layered Looks” this month and offering some tips on how to layer your wardrobe.
Although, this may seem easy to some, it can get kinda tricky as there is a fine line between looking chic with a bunch of layers and looking like you are homeless. Truth be told, I believe I have looked like both in my years of fashion………lol. You live and you learn.
One tip I can offer is don’t try too hard when going for the layered look. Just do what feels comfortable If you don’t normally wear a ton of layers, start out small. Try layering your sweaters with a striped or crisp button down and go from there.
The key is to have fun, while staying warm. Stay tuned…………..

CB Style Corner: Festival Inspired

Coachella seems to be “Big News” this week in fashion with tons of style inspiration picks from various websites. What I realized (while scrolling through a few pictures) is dressing for festivals like “Coachella” is the same as dressing for the beach, vacation or any other summer season event.
Simply put it’s “boho chic” looks at its best.
“Pulling off” this Boho chic look only requires a few key pieces, too. The perfect hat (preferably straw or felt), a fringed accessory, tribal inspired jewelry and the rest is truly up to you.

CB Style Corner: Where to shop for plus-sized clothing

I posted this picture on my Instagram and Facebook page on Sunday and my aunt who is a full-figured woman saw it and asked me “Where did you get that dress I love it!”.

In response, I said “GoJane.com“. She asked “Well, do they sell plus-sized clothing”. I said “No, but I can send you some links to some places that does.”  I was elated she wanted me to put on my “personal stylist hat” for a few moments.  🙂

In years past as a blogger, I have always searched for online plus sized stores because either my friends and/or family would ask where to buy trendy clothes for their children or family members.
It seems that retailers are catching on to the demand as there seems to be more and more stores that sell plus-sized clothing.  Here are some favorites:

Healthy Lifestyle Tips

Okay, so hopefully you are not thinking “What does Healthy Lifestyle Tips have to do with fashion?”.  Essentially, it has everything to do with fashion because  what you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body.  It sounds cliché but so true.

I am not perfect when it pertains to healthy eating habits; however, I am disciplined and I know when I can munch on a bag of my favorite chips and when I need to take a break from the sweets/salty snacks and all the other yummy goodness.

Here are some tips I have found over the years that can help you maintain your physique.

Eat your Breakfast

Eating a bowl of oatmeal with apples, bananas and raisins is not only filling but it prevents you from the “snack attack”.  So you don’t like oatmeal?  Try eating 2 apples and a cup of Greek Yogurt.  (Yoplait’s Greek yogurt is actually very good)

Drink your fluids

Water with lemon juice, green tea or just a bottled water.  I read online that drinking those type of beverages will help your metabolism.

Snack Sensibly

Okay, this is my downfall because I am a “snack-a-holic”.   I eat healthy but when I am stressed you will see all kinds of madness in my office during work hours.
I have learned that snacking on a trail mix of almonds, raisins, cranberries and pistachios is just as “comforting” as snacking on salty chips.   I have a big bag in my desk for those stressful days.

Try to incorporate an exercise routine in your weekly schedule

I know sometimes it can be challenging, trust me but I follow this quote when I feel overwhelmed by life’s daily activities:  If it’s important to you, you will find a way.   If not, you will find an excuse.

Don’t eat after a certain time

I try not to eat after 6 pm and if I do it’s very light.   Here’s a rule I use:   Eat your heaviest meals earlier in the day and then slowly decrease your intake.   I generally get full from breakfast and lunch so by the time I exercise I don’t feel sluggish and also won’t be tempted to eat afterwards.
